Text Mining with R
Toxicity Detection in Historical Prints of the Berlin State Library

Cultural heritage institutions hold extensive collections that have often been assembled over long periods of time. These collections therefore reflect the cultural and social norms of their respective eras. As a result, they may contain terms that are perceived as inappropriate in today’s society. At the same time, the sheer volume of digitized material makes it difficult to research and contextualize problematic terms.

As part of Stabi Lab, a workshop will focus on the use of toxic terminology in the digitized collections of the Berlin State Library. Participants will be introduced to common text mining methods and the statistical software package R.
