The Data Café offers advice and resources for anyone working with methods from the digital humanities and social sciences, developing their own projects, or interested in new tools from the field of Digital Humanities. No registration required—just drop by!

What to Expect at the Data Café
Consultation
The possibilities of data-driven research are evolving rapidly. Alongside new technologies and tools, collection practices, data standards, and the provision of cultural data are also changing. Whether you are working on a seminar project, a thesis, or a research project, the Stabi Lab team will advise you on your work in the following areas:

Input sessions
Short input sessions introduce methods and tools for working with cultural data. In approximately 30-minute sessions, participants gain practical insights into current developments in the Digital Humanities and experimental data work. Afterwards, these methods and tools can be explored in greater depth on site and tested in participants’ own projects.
DH resources
The Data Café provides a range of DH resources:

Academic journals and literature in the Digital Humanities

Access to interfaces (APIs) and curated datasets

Overviews of DH tools and methods

On-site use of work laptops with DH software (including Oxygen XML Editor, Gephi, Python Anaconda, OpenRefine, R, and RStudio)
Open space for collaborative work
The Data Café offers an open space for experimenting with the cultural data of the Berlin State Library. Spaces are available for both individual and group work.
Pinboards, whiteboards, a smartboard, loanable laptops, and flexible seating are available to support collaborative work.
Discover data + create knowledge
Whether you bring a specific project, simply want to explore, or wish to learn about current developments in digital research, the Data Café at the Stabi Lab is open to all interested participants.
