A digital crowd sourcing project for medieval theological manuscripts
From May to July 2021, the Berlin State Library and the Leipzig University Library jointly organized the Transcribathon “Faithful Transcriptions”, a digital crowd souring project on medieval theological manuscripts. During the project, over 100 participants transcribed 181 manuscript pages and encoded the transcriptions in the markup language xml according to a TEI schema. The transcriptions were generated in the IIIF workspace of the Handschriftenportal, which is currently being developed. After passing the quality control, the data sets have been made available on Zenodo and in the SBB-Lab. An article on the transcribathon has been published in the journal 027.7 Zeitschrift für Bibliothekskultur.
Transcribing and Markup
During the transcribathon, the participants create transcriptions of medieval manuscripts with xml markup in the TEI format.
Discovering and Editing
The data sets contain mainly theological texts that have not yet been edited.
Research and Learning
Lectures on digital editions and machine-based processing of historical documents accompany the transcription workshops.
The digital transcribathon takes place from April to June 2021. More information about the event and registration will follow soon!
